Welcome to The Portal to the Public Network
Welcome to the new home of the Portal to the Public (PoP) Network. We are delighted to have joined the team at the Institute for Learning Innovation (ILI). ILI bridges research, practice, and policy to broaden the definition of learning to include lifelong and free-choice learning. As a partner on the original National Science Foundation grant that developed the PoP framework, ILI has deep roots with the project.
Released October 2018: Updated Implementation Manual.
The Manual is now available as a downloadable pdf, free for a limited time.
The updated Portal to the Public Implementation Manual and Catalog of Professional Development Elements is a resource for organizations looking to connect their communities with local science and technology by hosting programs focused on meaningful, face-to-face conversation with scientists and other STEM professionals. It includes:
- A framework, recommended strategies, and tools for adopting the PoP approach at your own organization
- Step-by-step instructions for 27 training activities that prepare scientists to have conversations and create hands-on activities based on their area of work
- Suggestions specific to a wide range of informal learning organizations, including science centers, zoos, aquariums, university outreach groups, and research centers
- Sample recruitment, marketing, program development, and evaluation materials from member sites
